Processing all juvenile offenders from Nueces County, the Juvenile Detention Cetner has space for 24 youth, both male and female, with an overflow available of an additional 16 beds. It accepts juveniles who are aged 10-17 and houses them according to gender, age, seriousness of charges, and other factors. Small counties that are nearby may not have a juvenile facility, or they may be at capacity, and they are able to access the space at this location to house their juveniles. 2 special education teachers are provided by the local school district, and they attend each of the weekdays to continue the education of each of the residents. School credits are provided towards graduation, and each of the students will be required to attend and complete their assignments as part of their programming. Meals and laundry services are provided, as are all medical care, dental care, and mental health care. Youth will be taken to the location if they are determined to require detention by a judge at their detention hearing or after their court hearings have been completed. At release they will only be released to a parent or guardian. Mail: Any mail must be fully addressed with a complete return address. There must be no contraband, and discussions of illegal activity are not permitted. Phone: Saturday calls are as follows: In County Residents: 12:00 pm. – 2:00 p.m. Last call at 1:30 p.m. Out of County Residents: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Last call at 1:30 p.m. Sunday calls are: In County Residents: 5:30 pm. – 7:30 p.m. Last call at 7:00 p.m. Out of County Residents: 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Last call at 7:00 p.m. Visitation: Parents and guardians who have been approved of by the probation officer are permitted to visit on the weekends during the following hours, arriving at the before the marked times. In county residents receive half hour visits with out of county residents receiving hour long visits. One visit per day is permitted. Saturday 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. (Prior to 1:30 p.m.) Sunday 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Prior to 7:00 p.m.) *Holiday 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. (Prior to 1:30 p.m.)
