The Lamar County Jail, located at the corner of Brown Ave. and 1st Street SW in Paris, Texas, was constructed approximately 20 years ago, and based on the recent Lamar County Comprehensive Plan, there is a pressing need to significantly expand the current jail facilities within the next two decades. The facility requires additional deputies and an increase of 110 beds to accommodate the projected growth.

The concrete tilt-up jail was initially built in 2001 through a bond measure, which was fully paid off in three years. However, with Lamar County's current population standing at approximately 63,490 residents, it is expected to grow to a range of 78,560 to 82,250 residents by 2039. According to estimates from the comprehensive plan, this population growth will necessitate an increase in the number of jail deputies from 35 to 59, as well as a rise in jail bed capacity from its current 164 beds, to 274.
