About the Kinney County Detention Center

Because Kinney County is a county with a small population, from a monetary perspective, it doesn't make sense to operate their own 24-hour county jail. Therefore, the Kinney County offenders who get arrested get housed at the 384-bed private detention center run by the GEO Group that houses mainly ICE detainees at their huge facility in Bracketville.

Inmates at this jail are mainly ICE Detainees, however they all house offenders who have been arrested in Kinney County that were recently charged with a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

Inmate services include an online money deposit, video visitation, digital email messaging and outgoing phone calls.

Regarding work assignments, inmates classified as minimum custody are assigned to work outside the security perimeter under the supervision of jailers or designated personnel appointed by the sheriff. Pretrial detainees and inmates awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice may volunteer to participate in work programs operated by the sheriff that involve the labor of convicted misdemeanants. Inmates who have not been convicted are not required to participate in work programs.

All inmates, regardless of their work assignments, may be required to keep their immediate living area clean. Inmate work assignments are made by staff, taking into consideration the inmate's condition, including known pregnancies. Inmate activities are not supervised by other inmates, and they do not have access to inmate records or handle inmate monies or commissary accounts. Maintenance of locking systems and security devices is not performed by inmates. Inmates should not be required to work more than 48 hours per week, except in emergency situations.

Kinney County is a county situated in the state of Texas, USA. According to the 2020 Census, it has a population of 3,129, and its county seat is Brackettville.
