Both male and female detainees who are 10 to 17 years old are housed at the Fannin County Juvenile Detention Center, along with those from Grayson and Cooke Counties. There are several programs provided within the facility to offer the most support to the residents and provide them with the tools they will need to build their future. These programs include crisis intervention, mental health assessments and treatments through behavioral therapies and counseling, along with substance abuse assessments and treatments. Counseling may be provided in a group or individual setting and family counseling is provided to promote family reunification. School hours are observed, and teachers are provided by the local school district to provide continuity between the educational environments and permit students to continue earning credits towards their diploma. Classes are held onsite and continue year round, and special educational services are available as needed, but no GED program is in place. Family connections and communication are key to the success of any rehabilitation program and this contact is maintained through the use of mail, phone calls, and visits, the information for which is provided to parents and immediate family.
