About the Deaf Smith County Jail

The Deaf Smith County Sheriff's Office in Texas faced staffing challenges that delayed the full utilization of their new $32 million jail facility, which was opened in 2022.

The new facility, located at 3780 N Progressive Rd. in Hereford, shares the building the the Deaf Smith County Sheriff, the 911 Center and the Law Enforcement Center.

In this new, 96-bed facility there are four pods of 49 beds, so there will be more space for females, something they struggled with before. They even have extra beds to rent out to neighboring counties including those from Amarillo.

Inmates are offenders arrested in Deaf Smith County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.
