⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessAs of spring 2024, the Coryell County Jail in Texas was facing significant overcrowding issues. With a rated capacity of only 92 beds, the jail consistently has as many as 175+ offenders in custody on any given day, which includes many offenders that are in neighboring jails.
In October 2022, the county voted to build a new facility in 2023 in response to the ongoing overcrowding problems. Currently, the county sends approximately half of its total inmates to other counties due to the lack of bed space in the current jail. Coryell County Sheriff Scott Williams emphasized the need for a new jail facility as the number of inmates consistently exceeds the available beds. Failure to resolve the issue of overcrowding within a reasonable time frame could potentially lead to the closure of the jail.
The decision for more beds was made to demolish the old county jail and build a new 47 bed jail in that spot, bringing the total between the two buildings to 139 beds, far less than what they need. In the meantime, when it gets too crowded the Sheriff will send inmates to eight other Texas counties to house overflow inmates to include: Bosque, Burnet, Erath, Grimes, Limestone, McLennan, Mills and Milam Counties.

There are three choices for putting money on an inmate's books:
Choice 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment.
Coryell County Jail has a Tiger Kiosk in the Lobby that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
If you can't get your questions answered online call the Coryell County Jail at 254-865-7201.
Choice 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Coryell County Jail and others often use a private company to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Go to the online site for depositing funds. You will need to register an account, which is free to do and use a debit/credit card for the deposits.
Choice 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
Call Coryell County Jail at 254-865-7201 to confirm the address to send the money order to and how they want it made out.
Failure to do this properly will delay your inmate getting his account credited and may require you to have to resubmit a second money order.
Call 254-865-7201 to ask facility personnel who to make the money order out to, and where to send it.
