Brown County Juvenile Detention is the holding and temporary housing location for youth who are between the ages of 10 and 17 years old when they have been referred to the facility by law enforcement, probation officer, or by order of the court. There are 14 beds int he Ray West Juvenile Justice Cetner, and each is in a private room with a bed, sheets, blanket, toilet, and a sink. It is a secure location and cameras are used to monitor both safety and security as people move throughout the space. Within 2 working days of their arrival there is a detention hearing, and this will determine if they will be released or if they may be transferred to a long term facility for up to 10 days when another detention hearing will be held. Meals are provided at the scheduled times of 7am, 12pm, 6pm and snacks at 8pm, with each being a health option to meet the needs of the residents. Education continues with the support of the local school district, providing even the short term students with the tools they need to finish their classes and to return at the same place in the curriculum as the rest of their class. Only those who are on the approved visitor list can receive phone calls. Visitation: Visits may occur each day between 10am and 11am, or 7pm to 8pm, and will last 15 minutes.
