It is a 1,733-bed jail that is overseen by the Sheriff's Department of Bexar County. This annex, which is 100,000 square feet in size and five stories tall, is a pre-cast structure. It added more inmate beds, classrooms, a Magistrate facility, and a medical facility. The location of the Annex is 200 North Comal, San Antonio, TX 78207. The phone number is 210-335-6201. When a male or female is arrested in Bexter County, he or she is brought into the Justice Intake & Assessment Annex, located at the same address.
The Sheriff's Department and eight other entities are involved with the administration of records and the determination of whether an inmate will be eligible for a bond, if they can be released on bail, or if they will be sent to jail. These entitles are The District Clerk's Office, The District Attorney's Office, Pretrial Services, the Department of Behavioral Health, the University Health Services, the Center for Health Care Services, The Public Defender's Office, and the Courts.

They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.
