Armstrong County leaders were contemplating what to do with the county’s jail. Options available were to refurbish their outdated jail or to build a new one, which proved to be too costly. So there is a new course... County commissioners voted unanimously to shut down the jail electing to house inmates at other jail facilities such as in Carson County, and if necessary, Potter County.

The old jail has plumbing problems, and it has other issues that need fixing and that need attention and it’s more cost effective to house inmates elsewhere.

Armstrong County leaders are also working out a contract agreement with Randall County which would give them a third option should they run into a problem of overcrowding at the other two facilities.

What kind of questions are asked during booking?

The arresting jurisdiction will ask about gang affiliations, tattoos, medical conditions, prescribed medication they are taking, recreational drugs they are on or addicted to, allergies, if they are suicidal, and other relevant information that will help with determining their cell assignment and special needs.
