In Putnam County, the corrections facility, staffed by 55 corrections officers and support staff, is located within the 133,795 square foot building that houses the Putnam County Jail as well as the Courthouse.
There are 252 beds in the detention area, and when the beds for female inmates are full, they will be transferred to other local detention centers to prevent the housing of male and female inmates in the same housing units.
The Putnam County Jail uses the indirect supervision approach to incarceration and has cameras and a central control station for the majority of spaces.
Many of the inmates, around 100 on average, are inmates from the state while the remainder are those from the county, including those who are arrested by other law enforcement officials including highway patrol, wildlife officers, and surrounding police departments. Housing those from other areas allows the jail to receive some payment that adds to their budget and helps to provide all the necessary services for all inmates.
