There are 252 beds in the detention area, and when the beds for female inmates are full, they will be transferred to other local detention centers to prevent the housing of male and female inmates in the same housing units.
The Putnam County Jail uses the indirect supervision approach to incarceration and has cameras and a central control station for the majority of spaces.
Many of the inmates, around 100 on average, are inmates from the state while the remainder are those from the county, including those who are arrested by other law enforcement officials including highway patrol, wildlife officers, and surrounding police departments.
