INTERESTING FACTS about the Overton County Jail: This facility will hold 143 inmates comfortably, and not exceed their state rated capacity guideline. There have been a rash of breakouts in recent years, leading the county to look at security upgrades or renovations. Video visits are available Monday through Friday. There has also been a refocus on inmate education and vocational training in the hopes to encouraging rehabilitation and reducing recidivism. The two-story, brick, 143-bed Overton County Jail on John T. Poindexter Drive in Livingston, is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Overton County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.
The jail, located in the Overton County Justice Center, serves many law enforcement organizations including the Sheriff’s Department, local police, Immigration, and other surrounding counties as needed.
