About the Marshall County Jail

INTERESTING FACTS about the Marshall County Jail:  This jail is in Lewisburg, Tennessee and can hold up to 283 inmates. In-person visitation is on Wednesdays. There is also the means to see someone remotely via video visitation. There have been concerns about the lack of medical staff at this facility to deal with mental health issues. There have been several inmate deaths in the last few years attriibuted to lack of staff to handle these issues.

Located near the center of town, the 283-bed Marshall County Jail provides services to Marshall County, housing all misdemeanor and felony offenders as they wait for their trial and as they serve a sentence less than 12 months in length. Both male and female offenders are held at this location, and they will be housed in separate housing units depending upon gender, seriousness of charges, lowest security needs, history of behavior issues during detention, and other considerations.

Red brick, the building stands two stories tall in the detention section, with tall thin windows, The assessment that determines housing assignment also provides information for any medical care that is needed as well as any mental health care, and they will be provided with information on rules, visits, laundry, and other factors.

Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks. 

The Marshall County Jail also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills. 

Along with the efforts made by the staff, reduced recidivism is seen when inmates are able to stay in contact and supported by their family or friends who are not incarcerated so mail, phones, and visits are provided.

  • Only those listed on an inmate's Visitation Form will be permitted to visit. Inmates are given this form when they are assigned a cell.
  • Visitors must have a current, valid photo identification (such as a driver's license) in order to visit.
  • All visitors, on their first visit, must complete a Visitor Information Form. They will then be checked to determine whether they have any outstanding warrants.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is on the approved list, do not need to be listed on an approved visitation list themselves.
  • Each inmate is allowed one hour of visitation per week on their assigned day and time. You must check with your inmate for this date and time.
  • Requests for exceptions and special requests must be forwarded through a Corrections Officer to a Shift Supervisor for approval.
  • A Shift Supervisor may extend visits by reason of distance traveled, past infrequent visits, or other reason.
