The grant includes full-time employees for teaching courses in subjects like welding and plumbing. Also, the grant money includes tablets loaded with educational programs and the monthly subscription that goes with them and also includes more substance abuse programs. The Lewis County Jail installed isolation cells during COVID in order to keep those infected away from the general population.
The Lewis County Jail is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Lewis County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.
It serves many law enforcement organizations including the Sheriff’s Department, local police, Immigration, and other surrounding counties as needed.
