About the Greene County Workhouse

The Greene County Workhouse houses the inmates throughout Greene County who qualify for work release and other work programs to be housed.

As a separate facility from the detention center, a lower security level is maintained and inmates are permitted more freedom of movement to complete work tasks around the grounds, in the building, and outside of the workhouse completely.

Work release allows inmates from Greene County Workhouse to attend their regular job during the day and return to the facility at night to continue their sentence.

Over 200 inmates are housed at this location, and they include both male and female inmates, with the opening of the female housing pod allowing the pod they were previously housed in to become a full time medical wing to provide full medical care for all inmates. During that expansion there was also a space added for inmates to attend court dates via videocall from the building and removing the need to transport them to the courthouse directly for each court date.

Many services and programs are operating, and questions about programs or if someone you know is at the workhouse can be directed to 423-798-1804.

Food services provide meals for inmates three times each day based upon state provided nutritional guidelines, mail is delivered each weekday, recreational activities and programs are organized, educational opportunities are presented, support groups and substance abuse treatment are provided, and several other opportunities for learning and personal growth are present.

To send mail it is delivered to:

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Greene County Workhouse?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Greene County Workhouse uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Greene County Workhouse first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
