With a capacity of under 100 juveniles, the Giles County Juvenile Detention Center is consdiered to be maximum security for their age and provides a safe location for the detention of juvenile offenders. All juveniles will be held until their detention hearing, which will determine if they will be released until their court date or, if they have a history of not attending court, of violence, or have violated probation they will be held until their trial has completed. To ensure that students do not fall behind there are facilities, tools, and supplies for all students to complete their work during their detention, with support to complete tasks and the ability to earn high school credits for it. They will also have access to physical education, recreation spaces both inside and out, and access to books and magazines from the library. Group activities support the development of better social skills and new life skills, and there is time for individual activities as well. Meals are nutritious and snacks are provided, and laundry si done regularly to ensure clean clothing and bedding are provided. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Giles County Juvenile Detention allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
