Operation ‘Making a Change’ is a re-entry program that allows inmates to learn how to change their decision making in order to make returning to society a smooth transition. The program aims to make them more marketable to employers.
The red brick and white columns of the 189-bed Fayette County Jail may not show the main purpose of the building, but the second story with small slit windows is a sure sign of the jail that is within.
Operated by the Sheriff’s Office it houses all offenders in Fayette County who are facing misdemeanor or felony charges and are waiting for their sentence, waiting for a transfer, or are serving a short sentence of less than 12 months. Each inmate will be assessed upon arrival to care for any immediate medical needs and mental health requirements, along with completing their booking and being assigned to a housing unit.
All medical care is provided on an ongoing basis after the first assessment, and prescriptions are provided on schedule.
Nutrition, laundry, clothing, bedding, recreation, exercise, and social interactions are all provided, along with other needs that arise during their incarceration, phone calls and visits allow daily contact with friends and family and mail is both delivered and picked up each weekday.
