Their overall recidivism rate had been around 50 percent, and 30 percent at the Workhouse. The new programs underway aim to treat additions, anger management, education deficiencies, and to help save the county money by reducing the number of inmates that return. There are work programs and a ministry as well. There are also two buildings... the Dyer County Main Jail with 184 beds and the Annex (Workhouse) with 52 beds. The total rated capacity is 236 beds.
With a top capacity of 184 beds in the Main Jail for all offenders, felony or misdemeanor, both men and women, throughout Dyer County, the Dyer County Jail is the only local jail and houses all inmates while they await their trial and as they serve a short sentence usually under one year.
To determine if someone is at the facility, what their bail is, and other status details the jail can be contacted directly at 731-285-2802 and they also supply an online jail roster portal with key information.
Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.
The Dyer County Jail offers programs and services that focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, and the focus of each is to provide inmates with the tools to rebuild after incarceration. These include GED, parenting, anger management, family values, treatment for addictions, and others.
During any length of incarceration meals and medical care are provided to care for the physical needs of the offender, with mental health support and recreational opportunities as well as contact with family and friends to support mental health and improve safety for staff and inmates.

... and it must be sent through the US Postal Service, have a full return address, and have nothing else on or in the envelope besides the letter. Mail is sent to a third party processer and will be delivered digitally after being scanned as soon as possible after it’s arrival. This method of mail delivery removes the accessibility for contraband to enter the building via mail.
There are also phones provided for daily phone calls, and there is a kiosk located in the lobby for those who want to add money to the account of an inmate and assist them in accessing calls and other items.
Visits are provided via video and can be scheduled in advance once the inmate number and housing location is confirmed.
Work Release Program - Workhouse Annex
The work release program allows offenders to retain their current employment or schooling by attending during the day and returning to the facility each evening.
Accessible locations are limited when off the campus, with the requirement to have direct transportation to the worksite and back with no detours, no access to alcohol, and a list of the few places they may access for things like depositing a cheque or other necessary errands only.
Work release allows inmates to continue to make their financial responsibilities, including supporting their family and child support, while still ensuring they will have employment after they finish their sentence as well. Employment is one of the key factors in successful reintegration into their community. Inmates are also able to make phone calls and access messages, as well as have visitors around their working hours.
After being arrested, the offender is brought to the Dyer County Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.
The first thing every newly arrested person must do is close their mouth. Everything an offender says may be used against them, so the best thing to do is remain silent when questioned about the arrest and what led to it.
These are the steps of booking someone into the Dyer County Jail:
Booking can take as little as an hour, or up to 48 hours on a busy weekend or holiday evening, or if the offender is violent, wasted or generally uncooperative. If you have any questions about when you can pay an offender's bond and what the cost will be, call the facility at 731-285-2802.
When an offender is arrested and brought to the Dyer County Jail in Dyersburg for booking, there are several outcomes after being processed.
1. The offender will be released with no bail, promising to return on a specific date to appear before a judge in either Municipal or Dyer County Court.
2. The offender is ordered to remain in jail until their court date.
3. The offender is allowed to be released after paying a specified bond or bail. Call 731-285-2802 to get the exact amount.
The payment of an offender's bail or bond can take many shapes.

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Dyer County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Dyer County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
