About the Monroe County Jail

Located in the Monroe County Tennessee Justice Center, the two-story, brick and concrete, 364-bed Monroe County Jail provides the care and control of inmates of Monroe County who have been charged with misdemeanors or felonies as they await their trial or as they serve a short sentence, usually under one year.

The status of an inmate can be determined with the online lookup or by calling the staff directly by calling 423-442-3911.  

All inmates will receive three meals each day, will have access to both emergent and ongoing health care, and mental health support including addictions treatments.

Family and friends are able to maintain in contact with the inmates through mail, visits, messaging, and phone calls, along with providing financial support through adding money to their commissary and other accounts.

There are kiosks in the lobby to deposit money to any of the accounts, or online access from home.

Video visits and messaging are funded and accessed online, while phone accounts and calling cards are also accessed online.

Commissary purchases can be funded through the commissary account and this will allow inmates to make purchases for items they need during their incarceration.

Onsite visits occur Monday to Friday 8:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm-4pm and each inmate is permitted two visits of a half hour each week.

  • Only those listed on an inmate's Visitation Form will be permitted to visit. Inmates are given this form when they are assigned a cell.
  • Visitors must have a current, valid photo identification (such as a driver's license) in order to visit.
  • All visitors, on their first visit, must complete a Visitor Information Form. They will then be checked to determine whether they have any outstanding warrants.
  • Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is on the approved list, do not need to be listed on an approved visitation list themselves.
  • Each inmate is allowed one hour of visitation per week on their assigned day and time. You must check with your inmate for this date and time.
  • Requests for exceptions and special requests must be forwarded through a Corrections Officer to a Shift Supervisor for approval.
  • A Shift Supervisor may extend visits by reason of distance traveled, past infrequent visits, or other reason.
