About the Roberts County Detention Center
Situated in Sisseton, South Dakota, the Roberts County Jail and Sheriff is a combined office that manages both the sheriff duties for the entire county but also manages the local jail. This detention center is fully staffed around the clock and allows all inmates to be rehabilitated within a safe and secure housing facility. The serving sheriff is responsible for all local warrants, serving all necessary court documents, and apprehend all those who have an arrest warrant out for them. The detention center offers a list of all inmates who are currently incarcerated that can be found at robertscountysheriff.com/detention-center. When working as a correctional officer within the facility the duties will range from monitoring cell blocks or recreation areas to providing security in the courthouse, transporting inmates to and from court dates or when transferring facilities, counting inmates and maintain all necessary logs, and responding appropriately in an emergency situation. The staff at the jail consist of correctional officers who are in charge of safety and security, those who clean the jail, and those who are providing food or commissary services, as well as medical and mental health care workers. Each of these individuals must be able to interact and work with the other staff to maintain the safest and most successful environment possible for the rehabilitation of all inmates and staff. This detention center is a full service center which not only accommodates both male and female adult inmates, but also juveniles. It was completed and opened in 2008, replacing the old jail that was finished in 1933 as an expansion to the cells that are located within the basement of the courthouse. In order to add funds to the account of an inmate for commissary purchases, phone calls, or to support video visitation there is a kiosk in the lobby of the jail, as well as the ability to add funds online once the inmate has active accounts. Information for each of these is also found within the lobby, which is open Monday to Friday from 8 am until 5pm. Each inmate is permitted to have two visits each week, conducted via video call, through kiosks within the jail. They must be scheduled at least a day in advance by contacting the jail, each visitor must be approved by the jail staff in advance, and the visits will be 45 minutes long each. Visiting hours are between 9:15am and 4pm during the week.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Roberts County Detention Center?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Roberts County Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Roberts County Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
