About the Meade County Jail
With just short of 150 beds, the Meade County Jail is located at 1400 Main Street, in Sturgis, South Dakota. It is used to house the immediate inmates after their arrest anywhere within the county by any of the law enforcement agencies in operation. It houses both male and female inmates and is available for new bookings around the clock. On average it is expected to have over 60 detainees on any day. Not only does the Sheriff’s Office take responsibility for the operation of the jail and the housing of the inmates in a safe and secure way that treats each person humanely, but they are also the key law enforcement in the area who complete warrant executions, enforce road rules and local laws, serve paperwork for civil cases, and complete safe transport of inmates from the jail to the court house and back as needed. While remaining incarcerated at this location inmates will have the opportunity to remain in contact with their loved ones who are waiting for them to be released through a mail program which will see all of the incoming mail uploaded to a digital program for viewing in the cell blocks, access to phones in the cell blocks from 6am until 11pm each day, and via visitation with 2 approved visits each week. Currently online remote video visitations are provided, and they can be scheduled in advance during the daytime hours of the jail, from 6am until 11pm each day.
