Williamsburg County Juvenile Detention Center Information

Williamsburg County Juvenile Detention Center The detention of juvenile offenders who are 11 years old or older and 18 years old or younger in the county of Williamsburg, SC, is the responsibility of the South Carolina Juvenile Justice Department. The statewide juvenile detention facility has space for up to 72 youth who are being held until their detention hearing, until their adjudication, or for a temporary hold. If a youth is determined to be a safety risk for themselves or for others in the community, they will be held until their court dates are completed. An assessment is completed for all juveniles who will be staying at the facility, and the information gathered will be used to design a program that will offer them the services and supports that they need for rehabilitation, education, medical care, mental health support, and other needs. Housing units are smaller sections that offer individual rooms or double rooms that fit around a common space where they are able to eat, do homework, read, and share activities with other students to practice positive social interactions and decisions. Mail: 1725 Shivers Road Columbia, South Carolina 29212 All mail must be sent through the mail system, with a complete return address, or it will not be accepted. Mail is subject to search for the removal of any contraband. Phones: Phone calls to parents and guardians ease the anxiety of both families and juveniles, and support mental health and safety of the facility, so all juveniles are permitted phone privileges upon arrival and can access phones at least once each week, but most often each day. Incoming calls are not permitted. Visitation: Visiting hours are offered at least once each week, allowing parents, guardians, and even grandparents to visit the juveniles during their stay.
