⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe LCDC, the County Detention Center, is a short term holding facility that only accommodates pre trial adult offenders, as well as those who have short sentences that will be completed within 90 days. As this is where detainees go directly following their arrest, there is a video system in place that allows for bond hearings to be completed within the building, so there is no need to leave the site to attend. The facility also offers ways for the inmates to remain in contact with their friends and family during their incarceration, and do this through sending and receiving mail, making phone calls, and receiving visitors. When sending mail it will go to a contracted program which checks for contraband and then scans the mail into the electronic program which then delivers it to a kiosk or tablet within the jail. This is provided through MailGuard and uses the inmates name and ID number along with the name of the institution, at PO Box 9106 Seminole, Florida. Those who wish to provide money to an inmate for their use during their incarceration can do so online at https://store.jailpackstore.com/store/index. They will also have access to the phone systems, which can be funded via http://www.smartcommunications.us/. Inmates will also be permitted to receive visits via video through SMART Communications. These visits will follow the same rules as in person visits with a focus on appropriate dress, an approved list of visitors, and there can be no driving, alcohol, or drugs during the visit. Inmates are permitted one visit each day, however that may be adjusted depending upon the number of inmates at the time and how many people need access to the program. There are kiosks available in the lobby of the jail that people can use between 1:30pm and 3:30pm. This facility is also a key part of the community and as well as housing inmates both before and after trial, they perform fingerprinting and background checks for both employment purposes as well as for volunteer work.
Lancaster County’s council and voters approved a referendum to build a new $47 million facility with enough beds to house more than 300 inmates. If the project stays on schedule, it likely won’t be completed until 2025 or 2026.
