About the Hampton County Jail & Detention Center
Within Hampton County, SC, the detention center is the main booking and holding facility for the county. It houses both detainees who have just been arrested by any of the local law enforcement agencies including local, state, and federal agencies, as well as those who have completed their trial and are serving their sentence. It is an adult only facility that accommodates any agency and meets the needs of inmates on a daily basis. Those who are arrested and booked overnight will see a judge the next day during business hours of 9am through 4pm. This facility is operated by the local sheriff’s office, which is open around the clock for all emergencies and has an after hours number to call. They also provide several other services to the community to ensure the safety and security of the area. The detention center does not hold extended or maximum security inmates, and these will be transferred to a local facility that is better prepared. With a medium security facility, it can meet immediate housing needs for new arrests and short sentences. Around 50 inmates can be accommodate at one time, with the ability to hold a juvenile for a short period of time until they can be transported to the juvenile facility, as well as both male and female adult inmates. To make outgoing phone calls inmates must have an account with Securus Tech, which can be created and funded online at securustech.net. Visits are permitted on the weekends, for those who are approved to have visits, and can occur between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Hampton County Jail & Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
