⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessStretching out for over a city block and backed by a grove of luscious trees, the 98-bed Chester County Detention Center is the location for all inmates who are arrested for a misdemeanor or a felony throughout Chester County and they will remain both as they begin their trial and during their sentence. Both indoor and outdoor recreation space is provided, with fenced areas around the building allowing for access to the outside areas.
While the focus of the staff remains on the safety of the jail, the inmates, and the staff, there are also programs provided that will add skills, grow confidence, and offer chances for rehabilitation. Medical care and mental health are also supported as often as needed, with both ongoing and emergent or illness responses for all medical needs.
To check the status of an offender there is both an online lookup and for those who are not yet processed or for questions regarding visit or bail and other topics, the staff are in the office 8am-5pm weekdays and can be reached by calling 803-385-2606.
There are several ways that friends and family members are able to support inmates including dropping off care packages on either Tuesday and Thursday between 8am-9:30am and 3pm-4:30pm. Approved items to drop off include games, religious material, and continuing education workbooks for pretrial inmates and sentenced inmates may also receive tobacco items, hygiene products, locks, some electronics that have already been approved, and work boots or shoes for those who are involved in a work release program.
Work release programs provide a chance for those who are already employed to continue attending their work shifts with reliable transportation that will return them to the Chester County Detention Center at the end of their shift.

Any mail that does not have a return address will be refused, and cash may not be sent through the mail. In addition, no Polaroids, tobacco, or other items can be added to the mail, and packages will only be accepted for sentenced inmates during the first week of the month.
Phones are available for those who have not yet had a trial from 6am to 10pm each day, while those who are sentenced can access phones at any time, and these calls will be collect or prepaid online.
To provide money to the account of an inmate to support purchases and necessities, money orders may be taken to the jail during visiting hours, or sent through mail for pretrial inmates, while cash is also accepted at the jail for sentenced inmates and should be given to the officer on duty upon arrival.
Visits will be held regularly, with pretrial inmates having visits Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7:30pm-8:30pm or 8:30pm-9:30pm, with the Monday evening time period being for female visits and the night period being segregated visits.
Sentenced inmates with last names A-L have visits Saturday 3pm-5pm and M-Z will have them Sunday 3pm-5pm. State inmates are on Sunday 11:30am-2pm.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Chester County Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Chester County Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
