About the Barnwell County Detention Center

The Barnwell County Detention Center is located at 330 Calhoun Street in Barnwell, and has post office boxes for incoming mail for inmates. This is the main detention center for the county and holds inmates both before and after their trial.

There are several ways in which to maintain contact with inmates during their incarceration, as outside relationships are key to a successful reintegration into society after the sentence has been served, and will help to increase the success of inmates at that time. To support this there is a PO Box that accepts mail on behalf of inmates, it is then checked for contraband and then delivered to the inmates. This address is PO Box 2925, PMB 79078, San Antonio, TX 78299-2925 for personal letters, while legal mail and money orders can be sent directly to the center itself.

Phone calls are only permitted to be outgoing from the center and incoming calls for inmates are not accepted. At this time the lobby is closed, limiting the use of the kiosks for depositing money or for the visitation times, so visits have been moved to a video system. The website to register and book visits is https://www.homewav.com/ and the support number for them is 844-394-6639.

It is not permitted to bring alcohol, tobacco, cell phones, or purses into visits or to have alcohol or unsupervised children in video calls. With the HomeWav program there is no need to book visits, but simply fund the account and allow inmates to initiate a call when they are ready. To ensure you are available it is recommended to discuss the next call when you speak to the inmate, and they will have access to the systems during their daytime hours when they are permitted to have access to phones and devices but are not in a class or session.

For up to date information on the detention center and the Sheriff's office they maintain a very active facebook page.
