About the Venango County Prison

In Franklin, Pennsylvania, on Elk Street, lies the Venango County Prison. It is faced with the mission of maintaining the safety of the community and the prison staff, provide a safe and secure environment for inmates, and ensuring the humane environment is maintained. Inmates are housed here who are awaiting their sentencing, or who have been sentenced to five years or less.

During incarceration inmates will be provided with uniforms and sandals to wear and will be permitted to have one set of clothing for court appearances to be delivered by a visitor on one of their visits.

Inmates can be contacted by mail at:

Inmate's Full Name & Inmate ID#
Venango County Prison
1186 Elk Street
Franklin, PA 16323

Phone calls are outgoing only and inmates may not receive phone calls. Up to 10 people can be listed on their phone call list and they must be approved before they can place the calls.

The system for this can be accessed online and inmates can access phones each day of the week from 8:30am until 10:30 am, 12:30pm to 2:30pm, and 5:30pm to 10:30 pm. Voicemail is available for friends and family to call and leave voicemail, and emessaging is provided as well.

To visit an inmate through video visitation there are instructions online. Visits may be scheduled by the inmate, and no set visitation hours are provided to the public.

There is a work release program for those who qualify, that allows them to have a job outside of the prison and attend work each day. They are not permitted to go anywhere other than directly to work and back to the prison, but it can allow them to remain employed during their sentence.

One of the main purposes and benefits of the work release is that the families will still receive the financial support from that position while the wage earner is incarcerated.

To allow inmates to order from the commissary there is a kiosk in the lobby that can be accessed from 7 am until 9 pm, or deposits can be made at jailatm.com.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Venango County Prison?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Venango County Prison uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Venango County Prison first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
