Montgomery County Youth Center Information

With 48 beds to house both male and female juveniles, the Montgomery County Youth Center has a 12 bed shelter as well as a 36 bed secure detention facility. The shelter offers housing for minors who have dependency issues, are runaways or truant, and for other minor delinquent offenses. The secure detention unit houses those who are being held on delinquent charges. All residents are between 10 years of age and 18 years of age, with adults being housed at the local adult facility and those under 10 being accepted only under extenuating circumstances. To mee the needs of the residents there are several programs, well trained staff and professionals, and a range of services provided. Respect and dignity are provided at all times, as well as interactions to improve social skills and the opportunity to improve life skills to assist in success after reintegration into the community. Evaluations are provided to determine what services are needed by each individual resident, ensuring their education and group activities are appropriate for them. This includes behavioral assessments, psychological and psychiatric assessments, drug and alcohol testing, and more. Phones: Only parents and guardians are approved for phone calls outside of lawyers, and these calls occur mostly evenings or weekends and during recreational time. Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Montgomery County Youth Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
