⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessAs the COVID pandemic eased many things returned to their state from before the outbreak. At the McKean County Prison this shift was seen first in the move away from two free video visits each week and back to allowing an in person visit each week.
The prison is operated by the sheriff’s office, where they also process gun permits, fingerprinting for background checks, and hand the serving of warrants, arrests by warrant, and patrol the city of Smethport as well as the surrounding county.
Each person who is arrested in the area will be transported to the prison for their fingerprinting, mug shot, and booking process, after which they will be held until their arraignment or until bail has been paid.
While visiting is transitioning back to the usual in person visits, there is still an opportunity to access video visitation for offsite use, especially for the family members who are not easily mobile or who would need to travel a large distance to attend a visit.
Visits are permitted on Tuesdays and Saturdays and are between the hours of 1 pm and 4 pm and 5:30 pm and 8 pm on both days, with a break for supper from 4 until 5:30. All visits are scheduled in advance through IC Solutions. This program offers registration of visitors, booking of visits, and operates the phone accounts of inmates allowing for money to be added to their accounts at the website.
There are kiosks located in the lobby that allow deposits to be made to the inmate's commissary, allowing them to purchase additional or replacement clothing items, personal hygiene items and more.
Family may only drop off underclothing that is white and in its original packing and a wedding ring for the inmate, the rest of their needs will be provided for or purchased through the commissary.
