They accept people shortly after arrest and will process and book them, then hold them both while they await the arraignment as well as for serving their sentence at the end of a trial.
Diversity is a key part of the community and is seen in both inmates and the officers responsible for their care.
Staff are trained on de-escalation and other tactics that will improve the safety of each of the people involved, and programs are provided for ongoing training of all officers within the facility as well as programming to provide inmates with new skills, education opportunities, and even work experience.
Religious services are offered for those wanting to attend, as well as substance abuse treatments and meetings, educational classes, library services, life skills, a re-entry program to adjust after release, mental health programming, family classes, parenting classes, anger management, and much more.
Mail can be both received and sent by inmates, provided it meets the criteria provided. There must be a full return address, there may not be references to escape or other illegal activities within any letters or mail that is sent, and the inmate information must be clearly marked. To allow access to digital mail, messages, and images an account can be created. Books and magazines are only permitted when they are shipped from the publisher or bookstore only, and 4 are allowed each month.
In person visits are permitted during the weekdays. In order to visit, the inmate must include each of the people that they expect to visit and are willing to accept visits from, and those people are permitted to schedule visits during the approved hours for that housing block.
Each inmate has one hour of in-person visitation per week, and one remote video visit per week.
Visits are booked by creating a user profile on the app for the jail, delawarecountypa.gtlvisitme.com/app and then selecting the inmate you wish to visit, which will provide a list of their approved visiting hours.
The inmate visitation schedule changes often, however you can review the current one online.
