⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe Cambria County Prison, located at 425 Manor Drive in Ebensburg, PA 15931, has a rated capacity of 451 beds. On any given day, about 14 beds of the total are used by juveniles from Cambria County and surrounding counties, and at least 75 beds are taken up by ICE detainees or prisoners of the US Marshals Service.
The Cambria County Prison is a direct supervision facility with various pods. The prison warden reports to the Cambria County Prison Board, which is made up of three county commissioners, the sheriff, the district attorney, the controller and the president judge, unlike most county jails which are run by the Sheriff's Department alone. Each housing unit provides an open space dayroom for inmates to socialize, watch television, have access to telephones, board games, use a leisure library and a microwave. There are cells for the most violent inmates as well. ICE detainees are housed with locally arrested inmates.
The Cambria County Prison was built in 1997, replacing the old stone 87-bed jail on North Center Street in Ebensburg. It was built in 1872 for just $73,000, originally with just 34 cells, with 52 more beds added in 1911. The old jail has recently been featured in a few 'ghost hunting' television specials such as Destination Fear and Paranormal Lockdown. Eleven men were executed by hanging there over the years, adding to its ghostly rumors. It has recently been restored and renovated after being sold to a local developer for $1.00. It will contain offices, an even space for large gatherings and a restaurant.
This current jail was built with updated security measures, improved procedures, and offered a new way to protect the safety and health of inmates and officers. Located on Manor Drive in Ebensburg, PA, the new facility is a sprawling building covering a large area of land. It houses both male and female inmates after their arrest and until their sentence has been completed or they are released. With space for 451 inmates, it supports the entire county and is the main prison of the area. People will be housed here directly after arrest, while they are awaiting their trial or bail (which can be paid on site at the reception desk in the lobby), while they are in trial, and to serve the remainder of their sentence, as long as it is less than two years in length.
While incarcerated there is a ConnectNetwork mobile app that allows friends and family to send messages, photos and videos. This helps to maintain outside relationships and keep families strongly connected while one person is incarcerated, which helps with their success upon their release. Before an in person visit can occur, inmates request visits 24 hours in advance. Two visits are permitted each week, of 40 minutes per visit. ICE detainees can have 3 visits each week. AccessSecurepak allows friends and family to send packages to inmates that are prepacked and are delivered directly to the inmate.
You can reach the jail 24 hours a day by calling 814-472-7330 to ask about an inmate or any of the inmate services, however you will find it is easier to get more detailed information if you call between 9:00AM and 5:00PM Monday thru Friday.
The Cambria County Prison has no official inmate search, however you can find outif an inmate is in custody by accessing Vinelink, a nationwide inmate search tool, however they do not provide mugshots or much more information than confirming custody status.
Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. The original letter will be scanned and then destroyed. You will notice that the mailing address is not the same as the jail's address, not even the same state.
