About the Grant County Jail
Grant County provides a detailed website that allows access to all of the necessary information for anyone with a friend or family member in custody. Connected to the sheriff’s office, the facility that was completed in 1986 has a full capacity of 188 beds. Due to the required divisions of some inmates, the jail may be full before this capacity has been reached, as it houses both male and female inmates separately. A Work Release Center was added in 1999 to allow space for minimum to medium security inmates while also providing the opportunity for work release to be part of the sentence from the courts. While being housed in this facility inmates will be categorized as minimum security, medium security, or in some cases maximum security, and they will be separated based upon those needs and have the available programs and services based upon those categorizations. Minimum security inmates were provided with onsite visitation before the COVID outbreak, and this may return in the future, however all visits are now completed through a video visitation system. HomeWAV operates this system and has provided two monitors within the lobby of the jail for those who are unable to access it from home and has an online portal that can be set up on the HomeWAV website to complete visits from home. One visit of 30 minutes is permitted each day, up to 3 hours in one week, and all visitors must be preregistered and approved. Grant County Jail has visiting hours from 5 pm until 10 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while the Work Release has visits from 8 am until 11 am and 12 pm until 4 pm on Tuesdays and again Thursday through Saturday. The website provides a current list of all bookings that occurred within the last 24 hours, as well as a full roster of all inmates who are currently in custody.
