Juvenile offenders who are under the age of 18 fall under the responsibility of the Clatsop County Juvenile Department and will undergo an intake assessment that determines any diversions from detention, probation requirements, or if they will be held until their court date. Restitution, screening, assessments, and diversions all fall under the responsibility of the department, and they are applied with a fair and impartial manner that encouraged personal accountability and reform. Detention and institutional care or supervision is provided by the Oregon Youth Authority and Department of Family Services. Within the detention facility there will be basic needs provided for including healthy meals and snacks, regular medical care, providing prescriptions as instructed, clothing, laundry, and hygiene items. Education, mental health support, and development of new life and social skills are also provided throughout their stay, and each offers an opportunity for the residents to learn positive decision making, positive social interactions, and responsibility. Recreation activities are also provided, both large muscle movement such as sports and exercise, and relaxing activities including reading, games, and individual activities. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Clatsop County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Clatsop County Juvenile Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
