About the Pushmataha County Jail
Every day an average of 12 new arrests move through the booking process at the Pushmataha County Jail. This small facility holds only 53 adult inmates at any one time. Both men and women are held in this facility, though they are kept separated throughout the experience. This process involves a photo, fingerprints, details on the arrest, and contact information. In some cases, the amount of bail is predetermined, and they may pay bail to secure their release at this time, in other situations there will be a bail hearing withing 48 hours of arrest. As a temporary holding location, they will be held for the original 48 hours until bail is set and paid, or until their trial has concluded. Short sentences may be served at this location, keeping inmates closer to their own community and support. Visitors are encouraged and may book an appointment in advance via phone or online booking. Each visit is 30 minutes long and visiting hours occur almost every day. No visits will occur before 7:30am nor will they extend beyond 9pm, so it is key to be on time for any visits or the visit may be cancelled. The sheriff’s office is responsible for the safety and care of all inmates, providing meals, medication, mail services, and more. Inmates are also encouraged to maintain phone contact with their friends and family via outgoing phone calls to anyone on an approved list. These points of contact help to deter the sense of isolation away from loved ones, increasing the chance of a successful reintegration after their sentence is completed.
