With 10 beds that house both male and female inmates, the Craig County Juvenile Detention Center is located in Vinita, OK. While in the detention center mail, phone calls, and visits keep the juveniles in contact with their family and some friends, however they are unable to accept incoming calls and may only call or visit with those on their approved list, with contact not being permitted with anyone else who is in detention, anyone involved in the same case, or someone who has recently been released. The facility has individual rooms, bathrooms and showers, healthy meals, class space for their educational needs, recreational space, library services, and all needed support. Therapy or counseling is provided as needed, and the medical staff care for all medical needs including handing out their prescription medication according to the prescription itself. Each youth is provided with opportunities for positive social interaction, writing letters, engaging in exercise or physical activities, and life skills that will be necessary for their future. Staff engage with the juveniles each day and show how to build social skills, how to create positive interactions, and show support and care for all of the youth who are in their care.
