About the Coal County Jail
The office of the Coal County Sheriff is located in the city of Coalgate in Oklahoma. The sheriff's office operates the facility and oversees its day to day functioning. When someone is arrested within the city or the surrounding area, this is the location they are taken to for booking. All information will be entered into the computer system, a photograph is taken, along with fingerprints. Additional information about the arrest, the charges, and other identifying information is recorded, and a phone call is provided to contact family, friend, or a lawyer. Once taken to their cell, the inmate is housed until they have an appearance at the court, have bail set and their charges read, and they will remain there until they are released on bail, or they are transferred to a larger facility. Any visiting must occur between the hours of 8am and 4pm, fitting within the regular business horus of the facility. As a small facility they do not house long term inmates and will transfer extended sentences to nearby larger jails. It does not have all of the recreational opportunities or extended programming that other jails may have, but it does provide meals and health care to all inmates.
