About the Scioto County Jail

The Sheriff of Scioto County is responsible for the operation of the Scioto County Jail, which houses inmates arrested on criminal charges that occurred with the county. Inmates here have been charged with both misdemeanors and felonies, and those sentenced to jail for one year or less.

Throughout the facility there are security cameras to allow the security officers to monitor the inmates and to ensure that any potential incidents are responded to swiftly and appropriately.

Social interactions will occur each day between both staff and inmates and inmates with each other, and in addition to their recreation time and activities will help to improve the social skills of all of the inmates and prepare them to work with others after their release.

Medical care is provided throughout any term of incarceration, including an assessment upon booking and providing their prescription medications as prescribed.

Mental health needs are also addressed through mental health professionals and support groups that meet regularly for anyone to attend.

For additional support, inmates are able to receive money in their commissary accounts or to have commissary packages sent.

Providing communication opportunities to families and friends is also key to the mental health of inmates and can provide a safer experience for all who are in the building, so phones are located in the common areas in housing units that can be funded online and allow only outgoing phone calls.

Visits are also provided, both onsite with kiosks and remotely with an internet connected device. Visits are scheduled online, and visits occur by day and time based upon the housing unit and last name of the inmate beginning at 6pm and ending by 9:25 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
