The Preble County Jail maintains an average of 75 offenders in custody on any given day. The Preble County Jail has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Preble County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 2,980 offenders.

The facility is operated by the Sheriff’s Office and houses 70 inmates. The current split for that total capacity is 60 for male inmates and 10 spaces for female inmates. The two groups are kept separated for safety reasons.
Using the “pay for stay” system allows the county to be reimbursed by the inmates for expenses that occur throughout their stay for things such as medications, doctors, haircuts, and commissary purchases. This program takes into consideration the financial stability of the inmate before determining which charges will be reclaimed and which will not.
The cell blocks are two levels high, with a common area in the center and cells going around the exterior.
During their incarceration some will qualify for the inmate worker program. This program allows them to work in the food service, laundry, cleaning, and other jobs that are required to maintain the functions of the jail. Detainees who are working in that program receive special privileges for it and will have more purpose in their days which can improve behavior while maintaining a sense of community within the building.
Visits are permitted for males Wednesday 7pm-9pm, Friday 9am-11am, and Sunday 1pm-3pm while females accept visitors Monday 9am-11am, Thursday 7pm-9pm, and Saturday 1pm-3pm.

• All visits must be scheduled 6 hours prior to the appointment or up to 13 days in advance.
• You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.
• Valid picture identification (e.g., driver's license, State I.D., or Military I.D. with picture) is required of all visitors, with the exception of children under the age of 17.
• Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied and supervised by an authorized adult visitor.
• Visitors who 'arrive' after the scheduled start time may not be allowed to visit.
• Clothing must cover all private/sensitive body areas.
• The visitation schedule may be canceled or altered on holidays or for safety/security reasons.
• Preble County Jail can disconnect, deny, change, or cancel a visit at any time.
• Internet connectivity issues during offsite visits will NOT be refunded.
• Each visitation session will show a timer to display elapsed time.
• After your visit has ended your connection will be terminated automatically.
