Within the Juvenile Justice System in Montgomery County, Ohio, is the Juvenile Delinquency Division of the court system as well as the Juvenile Detention Center. It is located in Dayton, Ohio, and houses both male and female youth offenders while they are waiting for their court dates and trial to progress. The goal of the facility is to maintain a safe and secure detention environment that has a positive impact on the lives of the youth, the community, and the staff. There is limited contact with others who are outside of the facility during the duration of their stay, with calls and visits being for immediate family over 18 years of age. Parents are permitted to receive calls and to make visits, but are not able to call into the facility and speak to any of the detainees. All youth housed within Detention Services are afforded the right to visit with parents and guardians two (2) hours per week. These are conducted in one hour blocks two times throughout the week.

How Do I Receive Phone Calls from an Inmate in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention?

After a youth’s initial 24-hour phone call they are permitted to make two (2) 10 minute phone calls per week regardless of level status. All calls are free and youth are not deprived phone calls as a disciplinary sanction. Additional phone calls are utilized as an incentive as part of the behavior management system. In the event the parent/guardian is not available on the first attempt, additional efforts are made within the allotted timeframes.

All youth are allotted time on Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 4:00 pm and 10:30 pm.

Youth whom reach Level 3 through the facility’s incentive program are afforded a 3rd phone call. These calls occur on Sundays from 8:00 am-10:00 pm.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Montgomery County Juvenile Detention allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention standards will be disposed of. 
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
