About the Medina County Jail

The Medina County Jail is located at 555 Independence Drive in Medina, OH 44256.  You can reach the jail directly by calling 330-764-3628, or you call the main number for the Sheriff by calling 330-725-0028. The jail, which was built in 1997, is in need of 100 additional inmate beds then the current capacity of 256. Estimates are it will cost in excess of $12 million for the project, which will expand the jail by 12,000 square feet. The jail houses both men and women, however women are typically no more than 20% of the offenders housed there.

While both the Sheriff and local police in Medina County has shifted focus to prevention and preventative measures rather than punishments, there is still a strong need for the local Medina County Jail. It houses all those who have been arrested and are required to go through the booking process. There are several rules and regulations that are in place to keep the jail a safe space for those who are incarcerated. After intake, but before being shown to a cell, inmates will be provided with undergarments and socks, along with required dress. Inmates are classified and assigned cells that match their needs best, and the level of security that is required, after which they can create a list of visitors that are allowed.

Family or friends may drop off prescribed medications in their original and labelled packaging, any legal documents that pertain to their case, identification and insurance information, and cash can be added to the commissary account for necessary purchases.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. The original letter will be scanned and then destroyed. Things you CAN do:
1.  You CAN ONLY send messages from the Securus website, or with the Securus app. (links below).
2. You CAN transfer ‘stamps’ to your inmate.
3. You CAN deposit money to your inmate, and they can purchase ‘stamps’ on their end.
4. Each time you send a message, you CAN pay for them to reply.
5. You CAN send photos. (Jail staff will review for appropriateness) 

Things you CANNOT do:
1.  You CANNOT use your own personal email to send messages.
2. You CANNOT send any message or photo that would normally be rejected by regular mail.

Other Things:
1.  Photos must be .jpg, .jpeg or .png.
2. eMessages and photos must meet the jail’s standards for regular mail.
3. If your eMessage or Photo is rejected you will be notified of the reason, but you will NOT get a refund.
