The jail, which was built in 1997, is in need of 100 additional inmate beds then the current capacity of 256. Estimates are it will cost in excess of $12 million for the project, which will expand the jail by 12,000 square feet. The jail houses both men and women, however women are typically no more than 20% of the offenders housed there.
While both the Sheriff and local police in Medina County has shifted focus to prevention and preventative measures rather than punishments, there is still a strong need for the local Medina County Jail. It houses all those who have been arrested and are required to go through the booking process. There are several rules and regulations that are in place to keep the jail a safe space for those who are incarcerated. After intake, but before being shown to a cell, inmates will be provided with undergarments and socks, along with required dress. Inmates are classified and assigned cells that match their needs best, and the level of security that is required, after which they can create a list of visitors that are allowed.
Family or friends may drop off prescribed medications in their original and labelled packaging, any legal documents that pertain to their case, identification and insurance information, and cash can be added to the commissary account for necessary purchases.

Costs vary and are subject to change, but generally visits range from $5.00 to $15.00 for a 15 to 30 minute online or on-site video visit.
How do you know if your Inmate will be available during the time you schedule?
