About the Guernsey County Jail

In 1994 the new Guernsey County Jail was completed, and it is the one that remains in use today. It is located within the Guernsey County Justice Center for an efficient and effective location for all related services. This particular jail has 54 beds for males and 12 for females. The two different sections are not together and inmates from the two separate divisions do not interact regularly and remain separate for the duration of their sentence, though some will find ways to communicate.

To ensure all nutritional needs are met the kitchen is fully stocked and staffed with a nutritional plan in place. Meals cost an average of $1.57 per meal for each inmate and allows for a regular food budget to remain in place.

Like many small cities there is no need for there to be a separate men's prison and a women's, nor for there to be minimum security, medium security, and maximum security each in separate buildings, so they are all combined into one. Longer sentences that cannot be accommodated or those who are facing sentences for violent acts may be transferred to other locations that are better prepared for those situations.

Regular hours are available for visits with friends and family, but all visits must be booked at least 24 hours ahead of the visit time. Visits may be scheduled between 8am and 11:30 am for online visits, with onsite visits being limited to Sundays at 1pm until 3 pm and Wednesdays from 6 pm until 8 pm.
