Found in Sandusky, Ohio, the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center shares the sprawling single story building with the Northern Ohio Juvenile Community Corrections Facility. By sharing a space these two organizations are able to share costs and resources to provide the most effective and safe rehabilitation for juvenile offenders. Access to education is maintained during their incarceration so that no student falls behind their peers, and they are able to return to school after their sentence is completed. Most of those in this location are awaiting a court date and further sentencing. Classes and programs are also provided to teach life skills, arts, crafts, mental health counselling, and offer recreation activities. Inmate Phones: Youth offenders are permitted access to phones a few days a week to call their families. Incoming phone calls and messages are not accepted. Visitation: Immediate family are allowed to visit on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30-7pm, and Saturday and Sunday 4-4:30pm. As well as parents and guardians, teachers and mental health professionals are permitted to visit. All visitors must be registered in advance.

Magazines

The Erie County Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
