The new $43 million Coshocton County Justice Center, finished in mid-2024 replaced the 50-year old jail which was considered to be a liability by those who live and work in the area. It is 40,000 square feet. This one building will house the new jail, administrative offices, space for the detectives and deputies, dispatch for the local police department, and the office of the prosecutor.
The modern styling allows for 126 inmates and will be constructed with separate wings for males and females, with both single and double cells, as well as dorm style rooms for minimum security inmates. To accommodate future expansion, it is designed with space for pods to be added that will increase capacity by 100 inmates per pod. This expansion will ensure the space lasts for much longer and is able to grow with the needs of the community. Community rooms will encourage detainees to become part of the community while they are incarcerated and use those skills to integrate with the larger community upon their release. It is safe, clean, and built to fit the needs of all inmates as well as the law enforcement and justice system.
Visitation in the building is done via video, these visits are between the hours of 7:30 am and 9 pm.
