The Wake Regional Juvenile Detention Center provides secure juvenile detention services for the county and the surrounding areas. It has 24 beds to accept both male and female juveniles who are considered to be runaways, who are arrested on suspicion of delinquent acts, or who are placed in the center while they are waiting for a court date or alternative placement. Once within the facility they will receive all meals and snacks from the nutrition services which follow the standards for the Department of Agriculture’s National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Juvenile Education Services oversees all educational needs and programming for the detention centers as well as development centers and other residential programs. Healthcare plans are determined upon arrival and the Juvenile Health Services work to provide all medical services that are needed for each of the youth in their care. Each of the detention centers are short term only, and those who are assigned to a longer sentence will be transferred to an alternative facility. Only those who are 18 years of age or younger will be admitted to the juvenile facility. Newspapers may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Wake Juvenile Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Wake Juvenile Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
