Staff at the Rutherford County Detention Center provides for all of the basic needs of inmates, physical, mental, emotional, and social. This is accomplished by having a medical space where all medical care is provided and ensuring that all prescription medications are taken as prescribed. Transportation to dental or specialist appointments and all court dates is provided by the county.
An upgrade to the use of tablets within the building has changed how some communication is completed, with the tablets providing access to messages, video visits, calls, educational materials, online libraries, media, and more.
To schedule a video visit an app is downloaded onto a cell phone, computer, or tablet where you will be able to create an account online, and then schedule a visit with your chosen inmate at least 24 hours in advance. Visits are available every day including weekends and holidays from 8:00am until 10:00pm, for those who do no have access to a device or to the internet may access the kiosk in the lobby for their visits.
There is also access to commissary that can be funded online, and it will be ordered each Thursday after 2am.

Video Visitation allows 'approved' friends, family members, attorneys and clergy of an inmate to connect with them using their computer, Securus Video Visitation app, or ‘on-site’ kiosk.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.
Books
The Rutherford County Detention Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Rutherford County Detention Center standards will be disposed of.
