The Perquimans Juvenile Detention Center was closed in 2012 and has remained closed since. It is intended to reopen in March of 2024 with a capacity of 24. With the recent changes to the ages at which juveniles are tried as adults being increased, more youth are being sent to the juvenile and family court systems, resulting in a need for increased space in juvenile detention centers. Upon closure there was a full kitchen, multi-purpose room, control room, intake, medical room, substance abuse office, laundry room, and fenced outdoor recreational space.
