About the Moore County Detention Center

INTERESTING FACTS about the Moore County Detention Center: Built in 1995, the county considered building a new facility but instead recently chose to renovate a portion of the center, referred to as 'the annex' that had not been used in 10 years. The new annex was partially built by inmate labor.  There are 287 beds total in the detention center now. The Moore County Detention Center is located at 302 S. Mcneil Street in Carthage, and the inmate mailing address is PO Box 159, Carthage, NC 28327.

Providing emotional support for someone who is incarcerated at the Moore County Detention Center, located in the Rick Rhyne Public Safety Center, is critical to their well-being. Even short visits via remote visitation can be critical for them in getting through the ordeal of being incarcerated. They may have medical needs to inform you of, or they may have complaints about the way they are being treated by the Moore County Detention Center staff. All visitation is done by video every day, but there are terminals in the jail lobby you can use on Tuesdays and Thursdays to connect with an inmate if you don't have a computer or other device. Visitation schedules can be found below and on the Visitation page.

Help your friend or loved one get through this difficult time by adding funds for them to get items in the commissary, or you can purchase snacks for them online that you can have shipped to them. Note: You must have the inmate's ID number in order to add money to an account in the kiosk of the lobby. Deposit money online with a debit or credit card by registering with an account. See details below in the Commissary section.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail also uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family of inmates in the Moore County Detention Center can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. They can also send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 910-947-2980.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Moore County Detention Center?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Moore County Detention Center uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Moore County Detention Center first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
