Edgecombe Youth Development Center Information

Housing only male juveniles, the Edgecombe Youth Development Center is a campus with 44 beds that provides secure housing and treatments. After completing the original building in 2008 the facility was determined to require more space, so it underwent renovations and modifications to increase housing. There are now 4 housing units that allow the facility to be self-contained. As one of the secure facilities, with the highest levels of security for their age range, the facility accepts youth who are as young at 10 and can keep juveniles when they are over 18, even until they are 21 if there is a history of violence or they do not complete their program. A full assessment is conducted as part of the intake to determine the services that will be required for them to reach their goals, and to offer full rehabilitation to each individual who is committed to the program. Services include education equal to public school education, full meal services with healthy options and snacks, counseling or therapy to address anger management, past trauma, addictions, or other concerns, along with treatments for addictions or mental health concerns.
