INTERESTING FACTS: The Cherokee County Detention Center was built in 2008. It has 150 inmate beds, including separate medical, juvenile, female and male pods.
The facility is designed to handle the inmates with indirect supervision and laid out with seven separate dorms:
One dorm for 14 inmates that are on the work detail program or that has been court ordered work release,
One dorm housing 10 inmates (Maximum Security),
One dorm housing 6 inmates in the Medical ward,
Two dorms housing 28 inmates, one of which is for female inmates, and
Two dorms housing 32 inmates in each.
Health services include: initial medical screenings, medical histories, physical exams, and prescription and administering of needed medications. Medical staff work with community agencies and provide care for inmates with chronic conditions, communicable diseases, alcohol and drug detox needs, dental care, mental health services, and prenatal care.
Eligible inmates can participate in Inmate Work Details, Work Release Programs, and G.E.D. Programs, and have access to speak with Jail Ministers when requested.
The Cherokee County Detention Center is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Cherokee County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.
It serves many law enforcement organizations including the Sheriff’s Department, local police, Immigration, and other surrounding counties as needed.

The Cherokee County Detention Center also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.
Along with the efforts made by the staff, reduced recidivism is seen when inmates are able to stay in contact and supported by their family or friends who are not incarcerated so mail, phones, and visits are provided.

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Cherokee County Detention Center?
