The 590-bed Bertie-Martin Regional Jail is responsible for the housing and care of those who are accused or convicted of committing a misdemeanor or felony in Bertie County as they wait for their trial or as they serve their sentence, usually less than one year.
It serves many law enforcement organizations including the Sheriff’s Departments in Bertie County and in Martin County in North Carolina, their local police, ICE when needed, and even other surrounding counties as well when they are short of beds for recently arrested offenders.
The single story, red brick facility, is located at the end of Country Farm Road, past the Bertie County Sheriff's Office. If you are travelling on US-13, Country Farm Road has a Duck Thru Convenience Store and Shell Gas Station on the corner.
