Housing up to 164 inmates, both male and female, the Alexander County Detention Center falls under the responsibility of the Alexander County sheriff’s office and holds both misdemeanor and felony offenders as they wait for their trial or if they are sentenced to a short sentence under a year.

Both male and female offenders will be housed at this location though in different housing units, which are determined by their classification and assessment upon booking. This assessment also determined if there is a need for medical or mental health care immediately and will assist in preparing a plan for ongoing care as well as what programs and services are available that may help to rehabilitate each offender and assist in their reintegration into their society.

If you think someone you know may be incarcerated at this location, there is an online roster that is updated frequently, and staff are available to address any concerns and answer questions at 828-632-0304.

Support for inmates is also provided through adding money to their commissary account to accommodate both necessities and some extras for recreational items, hygiene items, and clothing. Money can be added to this account either in the lobby at the kiosk, or online.

Phone calls can be accessed through an account online, and this will both allow inmates to pay for and access calls as well as add your number to their approved call list.
